Nanga Parbat

8126 m n.p.m., june-jule 2026 r.

On June 10, 2026, Andrzej Bargiel became the first person in history to complete a full ski descent from the summit of Nanga Parbat to the limit of viable snow conditions without the use of supplemental bottled oxygen, thereby fully achieving the goal of his latest expedition, the NANGA PARBAT SKI CHALLENGE.

The mountain action began on June 28, 2026, at 6:00 AM local time, when he and Janusz Gołąb set off from Base Camp, located at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. They spent the first night at Camp 2 (6,200 m a.s.l.) and the next at Camp 3 (6,850 m a.s.l.), from where they set off for the summit. He spent 45 minutes on the summit of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m a.s.l.) before beginning his descent. In total, he spent about two hours in the so-called 'death zone’ above 7,900 meters above sea level. Janusz Gołąb also reached the summit of Nanga Parbat alongside him.

The descent route led through the complex terrain of the Diamir Face, encompassing steep snowfields and long, exposed traverses. The most technically demanding section was navigating the Messner Route in the serac area.

The descent concluded on June 30, 2026, at 3:00 PM local time, below Camp 1 at an altitude of approximately 4,400 meters above sea level, where the snow conditions ended. The entire mountain operation—from leaving Base Camp, summiting, and descending, to returning to Base—lasted a total of 2 days and 9 hours.
