Broad Peak Ski Challange

8,156 m a.s.l., June – July 2015

On June 28, 2015, another ski expedition started as part of the HIC SUNT LEONES project – BROAD PEAK SKI CHALLENGE. The expedition aimed to ascend and descend from the top of Broad Peak quickly. The peak attack began on July 24 at 3:00 am local time. Due to unfavorable weather conditions and the avalanche that came a few days before the summit attack, I focused on descending from the summit, pushing the speed ascend into the background. I walked towards the summit alone, standing at the summit at 11:00 am local time (8:00 am Polish time). The descent took me 3 hours, including an hour-long break to rest in Camp III.

Dariusz Załuski, with the Ecuadorian and Spanish team, set off to the summit from the third camp earlier. Weather conditions prevented the attempt at the summit attack, and the group returned to the camp before my departure to the summit. Dariusz Załuski finished his attempt to attack at an altitude of 7,400 m a.s.l.

Broad Peak is the third eight-thousander I have climbed from which I managed to ski.

Team members: Dariusz Załuski (alpinist, Himalayan mountaineer, cinematographer).
